Rugby players under the spotlight to help plan future training
Carlos Ramirez-López, from Leeds Beckett’s Carnegie School of Sport, has been working with the teams to better understand how players should prepare and train during a tournament.
He said: “I have been collecting daily data on fatigue, wellbeing, sleep habits, and recovery on all the players, in addition to their training load and performance data during the matches.
“This will be used to allow coaches to better plan and prescribe training during tournaments.”
He worked with teams from England, Scotland, France, Italy and Wales for two weeks and stayed in the England camp during that time. He will feedback the data to the coaches to help them with their preparation for future tournaments.
Carlos, who is working on a PhD investigating fatigue and recovery in youth rugby union players, under the supervision of Professor Ben Jones and Dr Kevin Till, has previously worked for the Guatemalan Olympic Committee. He holds a medical degree from Universidad Franciso Marroquin and an MSc in Sport and Exercise Science and Medicine.
