Delegates from over 20 countries visit Leeds Beckett for language conference
The Languages in the Globalised World conference (LGW) provides a forum for teachers and researchers interested in the experiences of language teaching, learning and skills development.
The conference is in its third year and brought together academics, teacher trainers and research students.
Professor Phil Cardew, Deputy Vice Chancellor at Leeds Beckett, said: “Bringing delegates from 23 countries together at Leeds Beckett is a very important thing we are proud of.
“After reading the profiles and going through the variety of abstracts of keynote speakers and paper presenters, it is clear that the LGW conference provides meaningful networking opportunities for research and academic collaboration.”
There were representatives from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Mauritius, UAE and Uzbekistan at the conference, which was held at Leeds Beckett’s Headingley campus.
Dr Théophile Munyangeyo, Principal Lecturer at the university and chair of the LGW, said: “Building on the success of the previous LGW Conferences in 2012 and 2015, the aim of the third LGW Conference was to provide an international platform for the discussion of the importance of multilingual literacy and multicultural competence in a globalised world.
“With participants from all over the world and the rich breadth of papers, we believe we have successfully met this challenge.
“As linguists, the global engagement is part of our DNA and our presence at the global stage will always be the light illuminating the path for diversity.”
