Academic appointed chair of international rugby league committee
Vicky Myers
Vicky Myers, Lecturer at the Carnegie School of Sport, is to chair International Rugby League’s Classifications Committee, which will implement and manage a new system that ensures more recognition and fairer competition for disabled players.
The appointment is recognition for Vicky, who has developed an international reputation for her ongoing PhD work into disability sport sponsorship.
She will work alongside international experts, existing committees and working groups to develop the new system in time for the 2021 Physical Disability Rugby League World Cup.
Vicky said: “I am extremely proud to play a part in initiating this change which will strive to raise the profile and exposure of the sport by creating even more opportunities for disabled athletes to compete in high level rugby league.
“I’m excited to start my new role and to continue to develop and work on my research within the Carnegie School of Sport.”
Peter Mackreth, Dean of the Carnegie School of Sport said: “Since joining us in 2015, Vicky has developed a strong reputation for her work in disability sport.
“Our academics are recognised for working in partnership with sporting organisations to positively influence the experience of participants at all ability levels.
“Vicky’s appointment is a great example of this, and we know she will support the IRL to enhance their practices, creating lasting positive change within disability rugby league.”
