The Carnegie School of Sport and the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management have both made the top 100 in the 2021 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
The table is released annually to help prospective students identify leading universities in particular subjects. It is based on the views of academic staff and employers seeking graduates that specialise in relevant disciplines.
Professor Rhodri Thomas, Dean of the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management, said: “It is very satisfying that colleagues have received such positive endorsement from their peers internationally and from employers.
“We invest significant time and energy in trying to create a positive educational and research environment and this kind of recognition is very encouraging.”
Peter Mackreth, Dean of Carnegie School of Sport, said: “We’re delighted to be recognised within the top 100 institutions in the world for sport related studies for the second year running. It recognises the reputation both our staff and graduates have within the field of sport, both nationally and internationally.”
Every university included in this year’s rankings is assessed based on four areas: its reputation among academics, its reputation among global employers, the number of research citations achieved per paper in the subject, and the productivity and impact of each published scientist or scholar at the university.
This year the QS intelligence unit analysed data nearly 14,000 individual university programmes from 1,440 around the world, looking at more than 13.9 million unique papers, producing close to 81 million citations across 51 individual subjects.
