Leeds Beckett University welcomes Papua New Guinea Women for 2021 Rugby League World Cup
The Carnegie School of Sport offers its world class sports facilities, support, and expertise to Papua New Guinea’s Women’s team, The Orchids, throughout the women’s competition.
The Women’s Rugby League World Cup will commence on Tuesday 1 November at Headingley Stadium, with four teams in action. Papua New Guinea will take on Canada after the opening game which will see England take on Rugby League World Cup debutants Brazil.
The Orchids will be training on campus, using the university’s £45m state-of-the-art on-site ports and fitness facilities including rugby pitches and gyms, as well as facilities in the Carnegie School of Sport building.
Mark Dunstan, Head of Sport (Programmes and Operations) at Leeds Beckett University, said:
“As the excitement builds for the return of the Rugby League World Cup on home soil, we are incredibly excited to welcome Papua New Guinea Women to Leeds Beckett University for the Rugby League World Cup.
“Through our partnership with the World Cup, the Orchids will have full access to our world-class sports and fitness facilities which are the perfect location for elite sport training. The Orchids will be supported by our dedicated teams throughout their World Cup campaign.
Leeds Beckett University has also supported England’s Men’s, Women’s and Wheelchair teams to prepare for their upcoming World Cup competitions, with experts from the Carnegie School of Sport undertaking performance testing with England’s players throughout the year.
