New Year Honours for Leeds Beckett University Graduate
Leeds Beckett University graduate Lucy Bronze has become a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to Association Football.
Lucy is one of England football’s most decorated players, having made 100 appearances for her country, and was a member of the historic Lionesses team, winning the 2022 UEFA European Championship in front of a home crowd at Wembley Stadium.
At club level, Lucy won domestic league titles and cups in England with Manchester City and Liverpool, the UEFA Champions League, as well as French league titles and cup competitions with Olympique Lyon.
Individually, Lucy has been named the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year, the Best FIFA Women’s Player in 2020, the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year on two occasions and was a runner up for the Women’s Ballon d’Or in 2019. In August 2022, Lucy was awarded the Freedom of London after the Lionesses' European triumph.
Lucy graduated with a BSc (Hons) Sports Studies degree from the Carnegie School of Sport in 2013. During her time at the university, Lucy was a sports scholarship student and represented the university in the British and Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions.
