Leeds Beckett Students Present Funds Raised from Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
To prepare for the Three Peaks Challenge, which took place in September 2023, the students were supported by Leeds Business School.
The students' efforts culminated in a donation of £1,850 which was distributed between the causes. The achievement follows an inspiring trip to India, which was part of an international summer school programme.
During a virtual presentation ceremony in July, funds were shared with several schools in the Rihe village, Maharashtra. The presentation was attended by representatives of Leeds Business School, as well as students who participated in the challenge.
BA (Hons) Business Management student Ellie-Jo Pattison reflected on the experience, saying: "Although challenging, mentally and physically, the completion of the three peaks provided reward far beyond our own accomplishments as we knew that the funds raised would provide positive change for the students we met on our trip. I'm looking forward to seeing the enjoyment the new sports equipment will bring to a deserving community."
Dr. Sukky Jassi, Course Director at Leeds Business School, praised the students' dedication: "The students have been so passionate about fundraising following the experience they had in India. It's been great to see the team ethic they've developed during their time on the programme, and I'm really pleased that Leeds Business School is supporting the students in this endeavour."
The funds raised will go a long way in supporting both causes. Half of the money will help the schools in Rihe village purchase new sports equipment, enhancing the educational experience for their students. The other half will support the Trussell Trust’s network of over 1,300 foodbanks across the UK, which provide nearly three million food supplies to people in crisis every month.
Emma Revie, Chief Executive at the Trussell Trust, expressed her gratitude: "Thank you to the team at Leeds Beckett University for their incredible support. Food bank teams are working tirelessly to ensure help continues to be available, but ultimately, no-one in the UK should need to turn to a food bank as all of us should have enough money for the essentials. The support of Leeds Beckett University will help food banks within our network continue to provide emergency support, while we work together in the long term to build a country without the need for food banks. Thank you so much."
The students' dedication and hard work have made a significant impact, demonstrating the power of community and international collaboration.
