Leeds Beckett University students experience cultural exchange in Rizhao, China
The trip, which is part of a wider initiative to build international student relations, offered a unique opportunity for students to learn more about the country's culture and broaden their perspectives.
The programme was a significant milestone for the school, offering invaluable connections and experiences.
Students, ranging from first to third year, engaged in a variety of classes and activities organised by the Polytechnic, including traditional Chinese art forms such as calligraphy and lacquerwork, to course-specific classes where students wrote, shot, and edited short films about the Chinese tea ceremony.
Ashley Dean, a Senior Lecturer in the Leeds School of Arts at Leeds Beckett, said: "This trip was about more than just learning; it was about opening minds and building lasting relationships.
"Seeing our students engage with a completely different culture and environment was incredibly rewarding. They approached each experience with curiosity and enthusiasm, whether it was navigating the bustling markets, participating in traditional Chinese art classes, or simply trying new foods.
"Our students have truly embodied the spirit of our university, showing resilience and adaptability in every situation. The friendships they've formed and the confidence they've gained will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on their personal and professional lives."
The trip not only helped students gain practical skills, but it also helped them improve communication and teamwork. They also developed problem-solving and leadership skills.
Ashley added: "The team at Leeds School of Arts has worked tirelessly to ensure the collaboration could happen and significant efforts have been made to strengthen this partnership. There is now a growing interest among staff and students about the partnership's future, recognising the benefits of such cultural exchanges."
The visit highlights the significance of international partnerships in higher education, promoting cultural exchange and academic development. Leeds School of Arts has plans to keep working on more international projects with Rizhao.
