Leeds Beckett University supporting balanced and fair research assessment by signing DORA
By signing DORA, universities and individuals recognise the importance of responsible and robust research evaluation. DORA's recommendations include avoiding the use of journal-based metrics such as Journal Impact Factors, and assessing research on its own merits rather than by where it is published.
Professor Silke Machold, pro-vice chancellor for Research and Innovation at Leeds Beckett University, said: "At Leeds Beckett University, we are committed to producing excellent, impactful, and accessible research which makes a positive and decisive difference to individuals, organisations and society. By embedding the principles of DORA, we aim to further develop a fairer, more transparent research environment to support our LBU research community and partners.
"We are now taking steps to further embed the principles and will be initiating active conversations across our schools around responsible research assessment."
Over the course of the next year, the Leeds Beckett will develop resources for colleagues and research students on responsible research assessment and review its existing policies and procedures relating to research assessment. The university already has a Statement on the Responsible Use of Research Indicators and the signing of DORA further supports continued efforts in this area.
This year's Festival of Research and Knowledge Exchange, which takes place on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 November, will have a focus on responsible research assessment and showcase examples of best practice across the University.
