Dr Faye Didymus awarded prestigious BASES Fellowship
This accolade celebrates exceptional professional achievements, expertise, and service to the sport and exercise community.
Faye becomes the third Leeds Beckett colleague to receive BASES fellowship, joining fellows Professor Susan Backhouse and Professor Carlton Cooke. This recognition further highlights the university’s leadership in sport and exercise sciences and its ongoing contribution to the field.
Faye has been part of the Carnegie School of Sport since 2013. Her research focuses on human welfare using theories of psychological stress and well-being. Alongside her research, she co-directs Postgraduate Research Degrees for the Carnegie School of Sport.
Reflecting on her Fellowship, Faye said: "It is fantastic to receive this recognition from BASES and to join a group of fellows whose passion and commitment to sport and exercise science has been an inspiration to me and so many others.
“I look forward to continuing my work with BASES and contributing to the development of sport and exercise sciences as an ambassador for the Association."
BASES Fellowship is awarded to professionals who have been members of the association for at least eight years, hold a doctoral qualification, and demonstrate a significant contribution to the field. Only a select group of sport and exercise scientists have been awarded a BASES Fellowship since the Association was founded in 1984.
Faye, who can now use the title FBASES, was formally presented with her Fellowship certificate and pin badge at the BASES conference dinner in Coventry on November 20, 2024. Her achievement was also celebrated in the conference programme, abstracts booklet, and the winter edition of The Sport and Exercise Scientist.
In addition to her research, Faye supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students; delivers lectures across Leeds Beckett’s sport, exercise, and performance programmes; and works with a variety of individuals (e.g., athletes, coaches, support staff, surgeons) in various performance settings.
