Leeds Beckett welcomes Suzhou health students for inspiring exchange programme
Suzhou health students were in Leeds for a two week exchange programme
The two-week exchange programme is aimed at promoting a cross-cultural understanding in healthcare and was arranged by Dr Jacqueline Parkin and Dr James Milligan from within the School of Health.
The visit was part of an innovative partnership between the two institutions designed to build stronger educational ties with China, while providing students with opportunities to consider furthering their studies at Leeds Beckett in health-related fields in the future.
During their time in Leeds, the students were introduced to the UK's healthcare system and gained insight into the National Health Service (NHS) and its role in delivering healthcare. Students also engaged with a variety of nursing and rehabilitation sessions alongside Leeds Beckett students.
The group also visited the Thackray Museum of Medicine, a renowned Leeds attraction that explores the history and evolution of medicine, as well as the Leeds Community NHS Trust.
A highlight of the programme included a day of presentations by the Suzhou students, who shared their experiences at Leeds Beckett and in the city of Leeds. The students reflected on what they had learned about healthcare in the UK and highlighted the benefits of international collaboration in education.
Hu Wenye, one of the students who presented on the day, said: "During our two-week exchange at Leeds Beckett, we experienced such a happy and fulfilling time, thanks to the incredible coordination and support we received. It left a distinctive mark on our journey and enriched our lives. I sincerely hope you will have the opportunity to visit China, so we can continue our exchanges and deepen our friendship. You are all very welcome, and I am truly grateful for your kindness and effort."
Yang Huiyu, another student who presented on the day, said: "Thank you to every teacher and foreign friend who helped us during our time at Leeds Beckett. Your kindness and support made this experience truly unforgettable."
Jackie Parkin, Head of Subject in the School of Health at Leeds Beckett University, said: "The visit from Suzhou Vocational Health College students reinforces Leeds Beckett's commitment to building global partnerships and creating educational experiences that prepare students for an increasingly interconnected world.
"The exchange programme not only strengthens ties between the two institutions but also opens doors for students interested in pursuing advanced studies at Leeds Beckett and understanding global healthcare practices."
