Newly graduated apprentice nurses shortlisted for awards
(l-r) Siofra Mckeon Erskine and Taimar Hyman in London for their judging panels
They have been chosen by a panel of judges, who have highlighted the most innovative, impactful, and inspiring individuals, organisations in the nursing and midwifery sector.
Taimar Hyman and Siofra Mckeon Erskine, who work respectively at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, have both been nominated for the Apprentice Nurse of the Year.
According to the nomination, Taimar has consistently demonstrated exceptional clinical competence, compassion and leadership skills. She excels in communication and forms strong rapports with patients, families and colleagues. Her compassionate care, especially in end-of-life situations, and her support for staff as a mental health champion, highlight her empathetic nature. Her academic excellence, strong work ethic and mentoring make her an inspiring role model for peers.
Siofra is said to demonstrate outstanding excellence in clinical practice, combining technical proficiency, compassionate care and leadership. Her empathetic communication and active listening skills build trust, reduce anxiety and enhance outcomes for patients and families. She excels academically, and as course representative advocates effectively for her peers to improve student experience. She is a reflective and collaborative team member who embodies nursing values and inspires colleagues through her dedication.
Zoe Lambert, Course Director in the School of Health at Leeds Beckett University, said: "Taimar and Siofra have been nominated in recognition of their outstanding commitment to professionalism and their dedication to patients and patient safety throughout their apprenticeship. They have excelled in both their academic studies and their clinical placements and have been a source of support for others on the nursing programme. We wish them both the best of luck."
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in London in May.
