Professor Mhairi Beaton to become next President of BERA
Professor Mhairi Beaton
Mhairi is currently chair of BERA's Conference and Events Committee. Her election to president was unopposed, with council members highlighting the value of her understanding of both the educational research landscape and BERA itself.
BERA is a membership association with a mission to support and advance research quality in UK education, while promoting academic integrity. In addition to running an annual major international conference, it publishes journals, provides research grants, awards and fellowships. As president, Mhairi will help steer the strategic direction of BERA and drive its contribution to the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).
A key part of Mhairi's remit with BERA will be to continue to provide a voice for the educational research community, while increasing representation from members from underrepresented groups and racially minoritised backgrounds.
Mhairi called the presidency a huge honour, adding: "I have worked with BERA for many years in a number of roles and as the leading educational learned organisation, it will be a privilege to take on the role of President of one of Europe's largest education research organisations.
"Having an LBU academic in the role of BERA president, raises once again the profile of Carnegie School of Education and the wider LBU as a leader within the academic discipline of educational research."
Rachel C. Boyle, Dean of the Carnegie School of Education, expressed her team's delight at the news: "We are absolutely delighted for Professor Mhairi Beaton on her appointment as president of the British Educational Research Association (BERA). This is a testament to her dedication, expertise, and significant contribution to the field of education. As a professor in the Carnegie School of Education, Mhairi's work has been instrumental in shaping inclusive and impactful research, and we are incredibly proud to see her leadership recognised in this way. We look forward to supporting her as she continues to drive positive change in education."
