Record-Breaking Leeds Beckett Graduate Scores for England Again
Emily was at Leeds Beckett University from 2008 as she studied for a BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science and returned to pick up an Honorary Doctorate in 2015. She has established herself as a force in rugby union, scoring 16 points in the 2014 Rugby World Cup final against Canada and picking up Rugby Union World Player of the Year (Women's) in 2019.
Made an MBE for services to the sport in 2021, she's also England's all-time top points scorer, but she's not resting on her laurels. Called up to the Red Roses squad for this year's Six Nation, she responded with a try - taking her to 749 career England points - in a 38-5 win against Italy at York Community Stadium.
This comes after career-threatening neck surgery in early 2023, and Six Nations success for Emily could lead to a swansong at the Rugby World Cup later this year. With record ticket sales announced, it would be a fitting end for Emily's celebrated career.
Peter Mackreth, Dean of Carnegie School of Sport said: "We're thrilled to see Emily returning to play for England in the Six Nations. She's an incredible role model, showing how professionalism, dedication and a clear drive to simply do your best can unlock opportunities that many may feel aren't possible. Having returned to play following a career threatening injury, it's great to see Emily back on the world stage."
