Leeds Beckett Student Wins Top Women in Property Award
The Women in Property Yorkshire & North East Student Awards were recently held in Leeds - a celebration of the next generation of female, built environment talent, with a number of employers from across the region in attendance. The awards also highlighted the ongoing links between Leeds Beckett University and local industry.
Ellen, studying Architectural Technology part-time while working for Align Property Partners, was praised by the judging panel for a well thought out presentation demonstrating thorough research and knowledge of the topic. The judges felt her presentation style was engaging and confident, that she gave very comprehensive and knowledgeable answers during the Q&A section of the interview and that she was a passionate and engaged student who scored highly across all the questions.
Tahira Hamid, Senior Lecturer on the BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology course at Leeds Beckett, nominated Ellen for the award. She said: "The moment the email came through, I immediately thought of Ellen. She consistently puts in the work to improve, whether it's taking the time to thoroughly read briefs, articulate her design concepts, or collaborate effectively with colleagues both in practice and at university. Her commitment to advancing her detailing and understanding of architectural technology is clear. On top of that, Ellen's approachable nature and great sense of humour make her a genuine pleasure to work with. She absolutely deserves this recognition."
Ellen, who commutes from Teesside to study, said: "It's a big reflection on all the hard work I've put in balancing both my work and my studies, so it feels like a great achievement to me. I've always been a creative person, but at the exact same time I've always been really practical, so my degree is a beautiful blend between all of my niche interests. It's a marriage of built environment, geography, being creative and designing things."
Ellen will be representing the region in the national final, held in London on Thursday 18 September 2024.
