Leeds Beckett Talent Hub Athletes Ready for World Athletics Championships
The 2025 World Athletics Championships begin on Saturday 13 September and Leeds Beckett University will be strongly represented through a host of athletes connected to the Leeds Talent Hub.
The Hub, based at Headingley Campus, is part of Beckett Sport and plays a vital role in supporting elite and emerging athletes across track and field. Through expert coaching, sport science and performance preparation, the Hub has become a training base for some of Britain's best prospects on the global stage while Carnegie School of Sport provides state-of-the-art sports science services to athletes .
This year's World Championships see a number of athletes with direct links to Leeds Beckett, some of whom are medal prospects. Among the standout names are current Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who will be targeting another global medal in the women's 800m. She has been supported by Dane Mitchell, Head of Strength and Conditioning at LBU.
1500m specialist Laura Muir has been building strong form after returning from injury. She's coached by LBU alumna and Olympian Laura Weightman, with strength and conditioning support from Dane. He's also worked with British outdoor 800m champion Max Burgin, who'll be looking to build on 8th in the 2024 Olympic final.
Rising star Tiarnan Croken, coached by Andy Henderson, LBU's Head Coach of Athletics with support from S&C Coach Maj Skok, has enjoyed a breakthrough season, and is another 800m specialist.
Emile Cairess has looked in excellent shape in training and will be aiming for a podium finish in the marathon - his 4th place in the 2024 Olympics was the highest by a British athlete for more than 20 years. Another distance athlete, Cameron Corbishley, will be competing in the 35km walk, and is coached by the Head of Leeds Talent Hub, Andi Drake, with strength and conditioning from Rob Milner.
The university is hugely proud to see so many athletes connected with Leeds Talent Hub competing at the very highest level. We wish them the very best of luck at the World Championships.
