Leeds Beckett colleagues recognised for excellence in doctoral supervision
The UKCGE Research Supervision Recognition Programme provides national, peer-reviewed accreditation that recognises the skills, experience, and reflective practice of supervisors across the UK and beyond.
Two levels of recognition are available: the Recognised Associate Supervisor Award, designed for those in the early stages of their supervisory journey, and the Recognised Supervisor Award, which recognises experienced supervisors who have demonstrated sustained and effective practice.
Those who achieved recognition in the latest application round are:
Recognised Supervisor Award
- Professor Kate Dashper, Carnegie School of Sport
- Dr Faye Didymus, Carnegie School of Sport
- Professor David Glew, School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing
- Dr Laura Griffiths, Leeds School of Arts
- Professor Rachel Julian, School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Recognised Associate Supervisor Award
- Dr An Huynh, School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing
- Dr Karen Vollum-Dix, Leeds Business School
Dr Faye Didymus, Reader in Sport and Performance Psychology, said: "Being awarded UKCGE Recognised Supervisor status is a meaningful acknowledgement of the commitment we make to supporting our postgraduate researchers. The process encouraged me to reflect on my practice and reaffirm the standards we uphold as a university. I would recommend it to colleagues as a constructive way to recognise the important role we play in guiding students during and beyond their research journeys."
Dr Karen Vollum-Dix, Senior Lecturer in the Leadership, Governance and People Management Subject Group, said: "Going through the reflective process required some very useful self-assessment, and made me think deeply about how I support research students and the impact and effectiveness of my support to them. This inevitably led to me considering how I can improve what I do. The application required feedback from colleagues with whom I have worked and I greatly valued their words.
"Gaining recognition reinforced everything that I had included in the application, and my confidence; it is powerful to know that others on the panel can see the value in what you do. I hope that seeing the badge of recognition also reassures students that they have a research supervisor who has ability and credibility."
Funding is still available for colleagues who wish to apply during the current application window (27 October 2025-20 March 2026), please contact the Researcher Development team if you are interested in applying.
