Health professor shortlisted for international award
The annual ceremony, organised by the UK Nursing Standard journal will be hosted by broadcaster Angela Rippon and held in London's Park Lane, Hilton hotel on March 22.
Professor White, said: "It is such an honour to receive this recognition as a finalist for this award. There are many excellent research teams across the UK, so I'm delighted to be shortlisted following the work I have been involved in."
Last year Professor White led an international team of academics to produce The State of Men's Health in Europe Report for the European Commission. The research undertaken suggested that a high level of premature illness and death amongst men is preventable and warned that the state of men's health in Europe is a serious public health concern.
Patterns emerging from data taken from 34 European countries showed marked differences in health outcomes amongst men both between and within countries.
Professor White is currently working with colleagues from Leeds Met's Carnegie Faculty on an evaluation study of the Premier League Health for young men, which is being run through the Football Premier League in England.
