Leeds Met student in the driving seat at Donington

Max Coates, a 20-year-old first year BA (Hons) Sport Marketing student from Scorton in North Yorkshire, will race at rounds three and four of the series on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 April. He will drive the Porsche Cars GB guest car for Parr Motorsport.

Max, who won in all three encounters last time at Donington Park in 2012, commented: "I can't wait to get back out again and can't thank Porsche Cars GB enough for the opportunity. The new Porsches are stunning cars and from talking to some of the current drivers they're as good to drive as they are to look at.

"I've never driven a Porsche so the weekend will be a steep learning curve but I'm ready for the challenge. I know Donington Park well so I just need to get to grips with the car and hopefully I'll be in a position to challenge at the front."

Testing will take place on Thursday 17 April, with qualifiers and a race taking place during Saturday. On Sunday at 1:35pm, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB race will be live on ITV4. Over the past two seasons, Max has raced in the Ginetta GT Supercup, a support series to the British Touring Car Championship.

He started racing in Karts aged eight and graduated into car racing in 2010. Max raced in the Ginetta Junior championship in 2010 and 2011. In 2012 he stepped up into a Ginetta G50, a 300bhp sports car. He clinched five wins and two further podium finishes.

Max is hopeful that this opportunity will give him the change to mount a championship campaign from Donington Park onwards. He spent time in the ITV commentary box at the end of last year, began his degree at Leeds Metropolitan University and started to compete for the University team in the British University Karting Championship (BUKC), achieving Met Motorsport's first main BUKC win at Clay Pigeon kart circuit in Dorset last weekend.
