West Yorkshire Winter School Games coming to Leeds Beckett
Yorkshire Sport Foundation will be hosting the 2018 West Yorkshire Winter School Games in association with Leeds Beckett University at Leeds Beckett's Headingley Campus.
The School Games will be an all day event that will see over 70 schools from across West Yorkshire - including Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield - compete in multiple sports and disciplines across Leeds Beckett's sports facilities.
There will be 900 children set to compete at the games and will be a major event for Yorkshire Sport Foundation and Leeds Beckett University.
The children participating in the School Games will be competing over four levels of activity which includes: competition within schools, competition between representatives of schools as well as more elite level competition including juniors competing at county and area level as well as a national finals event.
Levels of Activity
- Level 1 – sporting competition for all students in school through intra-school competition
- Level 2 – individuals and teams are selected to represent their schools in local inter-school competitions
- Level 3 – the county/area will stage multi-sport School Games festivals as a culmination of year-round school sport competition
- Level 4 – the School Games finals: a national multi-sport event where the most talented young people in the UK will be selected to compete in our national sporting venues.
All of the 900 pupils set to compete will be taking part in a whole range of sports and disciplines including: Boccia, Disability Sports Hall Athletics, Handball, Hockey, Netball and Orienteering throughout the day.
Yorkshire Sport Foundation, the organisers of the School Games festival, have worked hard in association with Leeds Beckett University in making sure the Games will be a special occasion for the schools and competitors involved.
