The Obesity Institute was proud to support the production of the More Than Weight Report.

The 'More Than Weight: Exploring the human, social and economic cost of obesity' report and infographics are now available. This report, which covers West Yorkshire and Humber and North Yorkshire ICB populations, explores the human, social and economic cost of obesity. It is shaped by lived experience (views and photography), expert insight, and a shared commitment to doing things differently. This is more than a report; it’s a call to action for compassion-led, person-centred approaches to supporting people living with obesity and managing weight.

Obesity Institute Our approach to tackling obesity

The Obesity Institute

The current response in action to obesity is not working. It's time for a new approach.

The Obesity Institute is working together with people living with obesity to change the way we talk and think about obesity. We need to stamp out the stigma, weight bias, and blame that is too often experienced. We provide people living with obesity the care and support they need. To achieve this, all the work we do at the Obesity Institute is person-centred with compassion and inclusivity at our core.

It is critical to understand that obesity is a chronic complex disease driven by many factors, such as our genes, how our bodies and brains work, and the environments we live, work, and grow up in. Obesity support is required across the life course, and it is an individual and personal choice to decide when, where, and whether weight is discussed.

The Obesity Institute is addressing the modern challenges of obesity, working together with a range of different organisations and people to develop tailored approaches that promote long-term health and wellbeing. We want everyone living with obesity to feel empowered and receive the information, treatments, and support they need.
