I am currently a student at Leeds Beckett University studying Architectural Technology and have just finished my first year. I am passionate about architecture and interested in the way it influences a region of the mind, shaping someone’s mood and well-being. Michael bond, a writer of psychology, researched the effect of architecture on the brain, studying the 1950 Pruitt-Igoe housing in St Louis, Missouri, housing blocks designed by Minoru Yamasaki. This study really captured my attention, and I intend to carry this through my career to help better my work and understanding about the importance of design. I am focused on my studies and intend to become a Chartered member of CIAT.

Having studied two different college courses, one being computer science, I was not sure as to what I wanted to pursue. After attending the 2019 apprenticeship fair at Leeds First Direct and speaking to multiple construction companies, I felt as if this was the right thing for me. I went ahead and studied a two-year construction in the built environment course at Leeds College of Building, learning about the fundamentals of construction and finding a genuine interest in methods, materials and the technology used in construction, I realised that architectural technology was right for me.

Having always had an interest in design and technology, this was a perfect combination of the two. Whilst I consider myself to be independent, I am easily able to work as a team as working with others is beneficial because hearing people’s ideas can offer new perspectives, I might not have considered myself.

Studying a full-time course whilst working part time is not always easy, it requires strict time management and dedication ensuring deadlines are met to a high standard and maintaining my attendance.

My other interests consist of playing video games (single player rpg’s, such as Assassins Creed), reading crime/horror/fantasy books and tattoos, attending the Leeds Tattoo Expo at First Direct Arena this year was great to see the work and speak to so many different artists from all over the country.
