I am currently a student at Leeds Beckett University studying Architectural Technology in my third year out of five.
At the moment I am studying and working at the same time. I am currently at a practice called Bowman Riley which is based in three areas which are Skipton, Leeds and London. Over the last 3 years working at Bowman Riley I have been given more responsibilities which means I have to make crucial decisions on the different types of jobs I am working on.
This allows me to learn the different software’s such as Revit and CAD. I have also learnt useful information which is benefiting my University work. By working and studying at the same time it requires me to meet deadlines, be punctual and manage situations under pressure. After qualifying in two years’ time, I am hoping to use this degree to allow me to move onto the next chapter in my life.
At Secondary school, sports was my main hobby. I was involved in the 1st IV Rugby team, 1st Football team, Cricket and Athletics. I went onto represent Yorkshire Rugby at Under 16’s, 17’s and 18’s and had three years in the Leeds Carnegie Academy. I was also captain of my local rugby team Skipton RFU.I knew that rugby would not provide me a full time career so I had to make the decision to concentrate on my academic side. As well as being passionate about sports at school I also really enjoyed Engineering, Product Design and Maths which unlocked my passion for the construction industry.
The reason why I chose Architectural Technology over Architecture is because I am more interested in how buildings are designed and constructed.
Before undertaking the Architectural Technology route, I have been employed at several places which include a local builder, plastering and screeding business and a landscape gardener. By being employed with these different types of jobs it has allowed me to have a very good background knowledge of the construction industry.
