I am currently an architectural technology student studying at Leeds Beckett university in my second year at Level 5. I also work as an architect at a Housebuilding company based in Hull called Beal Homes where I add design to residential house-types and site plans. I am currently a student member of (CIAT) Chartered institute of architectural technologists and hope to progress through the tiers to become chartered, as this will help my professional development and grant me career options further down the line.
I have always been creative ever since I was in school, having passed GCSE art with good grades. I also enjoy tinkering and using computers, especially my own which has helped to further develop my skills in technology. This has helped tremendously throughout this year due to learning new software such as Revit, InDesign and Lumion. These skills have pushed me into a category in which architectural tech as a career meets and is very suited to my interests.
I am very proficient in the use of AutoCAD with using it at work. After finishing this year, I am confident in using important software such as Revit, InDesign and Lumion. I will continue to expand my proficiency of these throughout my tuition at university. I also have much knowledge into the technology within computers having built my own to play games and work from. I have developed my knowledge and understanding of both the electric and acoustic guitar and taken steps to become a member of a band.
I have worked in construction ever since I finished my GCSE’s training to become a Quantity Surveyor for two years alongside working and managing a team out on a construction site. I did this alongside a BTEC L4 construction in the built environment on a day’s release at Leeds College of Building. Through this training has given me much help with the technical and practical stages of the construction process and has helped me progress through the first year of my architectural job role and study.
I hope to continue my development of technological and creative skills throughout the rest of my years at university, and in the distant future hope to become a charted architectural technologist (CIAT) and hopefully apply for a master’s degree. I have been offered a full-time place at Beal Homes after I finish my degree, so I hope to further progress up higher in that company and perhaps become a more senior/management-based role.
