From a young age, I was always interested in saving the planet. Now that I am older, I have came to realise that I can actually be apart of this movement and help create a greener environment. So here I am, a second year Architectural Technology student at Leeds Beckett – researching and developing new ways in which buildings can be less impactful on todays environment. Since starting uni I have learned that the construction industry is moving forward in a green direction, with new sustainable developments popping up all the time.

In the future I would like to take part in a placement after my second year to improve my software skills such as Revit and CAD, and also become familiar with the way practices run to get me ready for the real world. At the moment I feel comfortable with Revit and adobe creative suite, however my knowledge of CAD is pretty minimal but am hoping progress.

After my studies, I want to be apart of a practice in the north east where I can further my knowledge on the developing construction industry. In my opinion, I feel that the North East is behind on the green front with few to little sustainable developments, especially in my home town, Stockton-On-Tees. I’d love to be involved in the making of eco-friendly Teesside and bring it to speed with the leading developing towns and cities across the UK.

I spend a lot of time painting, listening to music, or up-cycling furniture. I have always been interested in the ‘arts’ and have always been surrounded by it since a young age. I think this is where my passion for design stemmed from, I have always known I wanted to excel in a career that was design based. However in college I decided to stray away from the art side and study Chemistry, Maths and Physics at A Level in stead. Another thing I oddly loved all the way through school was maths and space and atoms and wanted to study quantum mechanics – I quickly realised that that was not for me. Although that might not have been best suited for me, I still have a huge interest in that area of physics and quite often listen to podcasts on the topic of different sciences.

After rediscovering my love for design, I am now studying a course I love and feel passionate about and I have high hopes for my future!
