My name is Robert Sorren, I am 20 and currently an apprentice for Watson Batty Architects (Leeds Studio), studying part time at Leeds Beckett University. I would describe myself as passionate and dedicated, taking care and pride in the work I produce and the projects I'm involved with.

I first came into the field and my practice at the age of 14 where I undertook a week’s worth of work experience at Watson Batty through my secondary school. This helped to cement my aspiration of a career in the realm of architecture.

After completing my first year of studying at building college, just before turning 17 I returned to Watson Batty for another week's experience over the summer. I gained a lot just from the short span and with a thriving interest managed to secure a 1 day per week placement over my final year at college.

After attaining the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Construction & The Built Environment I was then asked to become a full time apprentice architectural technologist and attend the degree course at Leeds Beckett.

Since then I have reached the 3rd year out of 5 for my apprenticeship, learning at both work and university and gaining experience on an array of projects in the commercial/industrial sector as well as living and to a lesser extent the educational sector. In addition to this I have delved into some smaller scale, personal projects of my own. My next career goal is to become a chartered member of CIAT.

I enjoy learning and getting to grips with new forms of software that enable me to increase my capabilities in different aspects of my work. At the moment I make use of programmes such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp. Additionally, for rendering purposes I utilise Enscape and Lumion. For after effects and further editing I use Adobe Photoshop.

Being creative and innovative is important to me, for this reason I like taking the time to produce sketches to bring together initial ideas and develop concepts before trying to produce my ideas using software.
