Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

Ahmed is an Open Research Officer at Leeds Beckett University, supporting the development and delivery of research services across the institution. He works with researchers throughout the research lifecycle, providing guidance on open access, REF compliance, research data, and electronic theses.

He works closely with research systems and platforms, including the Current Research Information System and institutional repositories, helping to ensure research outputs are accurate, compliant, and visible. He also contributes to improving workflows, systems, and processes, with a focus on making research support more efficient and user-friendly. 🚀

Ahmed is particularly interested in making complex research processes easier to understand. He contributes to training, inductions, and guidance materials, supporting researchers to confidently navigate systems and requirements. 🧠

Before moving into higher education, Ahmed worked internationally in marketing and communications with companies such as TCL Communication, DJI, and Yalla Technology. His global experience shapes his practical, solutions-focused approach to supporting researchers and improving services. 🌍

The Library Research Services Team at Leeds Beckett University was shortlisted for the Open and Responsible Research Award. The team is made up of colleagues Helen Howard, Ellie Clement, Debbie Morris, Thali Bento, Lindsey McDermott, Liz Mann, Ahmed Ghaith and Anna Gower. They have played a key role in developing LBU’s Open Research and Rights Retention policies, implementing Discovery Profiles to showcase researchers’ outputs, impact, and collaborations, and delivering over 30 training sessions, webinars, and resources to support staff and postgraduate researchers throughout the year. They have also contributed to national negotiations on open access with major publishers, helping shape the UK’s research landscape. "Being recognised by this award reflects our collective efforts to foster a sustainable, open, and responsible research culture at LBU."
