Getting started

Our scheme is currently at capacity and we are operating a waiting list for interested colleagues. Please email clt@leedsbeckett.ac.uk if you would like to be added to that.

Our own DEAP CPD HEA Fellowship Scheme has been accredited by Advance HE under the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) 2023. The PSF 2023 is the international framework which has developed the essential criteria that must be met in order to make a claim for HEA Fellowship as a mark of your excellence in supporting learning and teaching.

Applying for an HEA Fellowship offers the opportunity to reflect on what you do, how your role connects with the wider university and the impact on the student experience. It is open to all staff who are closely involved in developing learning and teaching which encompasses a wide variety of roles including staff in professional, central services and learning support, alongside lecturers, professors and researchers.

We would advise that you have undergone at least one full academic cycle before applying to make a claim, which will allow you time to develop and reflect upon your practice.

To gather some understanding of the requirements of PSF2023, and the types of evidence you need to be able to make a claim for Associate Fellow, Fellow or Senior Fellow we recommend that you watch the information video and read the handbook.

Fellowship categories

The Descriptors below provide the details for each category, and what you must be able to do to evidence your claim. You can also use the Advance HE Fellowship Category Tool as a guide to which category of Fellowship you may want to claim against.

Descriptor 1 is suitable for individuals whose practice enables them to evidence some dimensions. Effectiveness of practice in teaching and/or supporting learning is demonstrated through evidence of:

  • D1.1: Use of appropriate Professional Values including at least V1 and V3
  • D1.2: Application of appropriate Core Knowledge including at least K1, K2 and K3
  • D1.3: Effective and inclusive practice in at least two of the five Areas of Activity

Descriptor 2 is suitable for individuals whose practice with learners has breadth and depth, enabling them to evidence all dimensions. Effectiveness of practice in teaching and/or support of high-quality learning is demonstrated through evidence of:

  • D2.1: Use of all five Professional Values
  • D2.2: Application of all five forms of Core Knowledge
  • D2.3: Effective and inclusive practice in all five Areas of Activity

Descriptor 3 is suitable for individuals whose comprehensive understanding and effective practice provides a basis from which they lead or influence those who teach and/or support high-quality learning. Individuals are able to evidence:

  • D3.1: A sustained record of leading or influencing the practice of those who teach and/or support high quality learning
  • D3.2: Practice that is effective, inclusive and integrates all dimensions
  • D3.3: Practice that extends significantly beyond direct teaching and/or direct support for learning

If the scheme is at capacity, or if you have not yet undergone at least one full academic cycle at LBU, there are other development opportunities available from CLT.

LEAP Pathway

Colleagues who are new to delivering/supporting learning and teaching can be supported with development on the LEAP Pathway which offers bespoke sessions for developing your learning and teaching practice aligned with the Dimensions of Practice within the PSF.
Joining the LEAP Pathway does not enrol you on the Fellowship Scheme, but rather provides an opportunity to see where your practice might map to the dimensions of the PSF, and therefore give a greater understanding of the PSF if and when you wish to make a claim.

Educational Development Programme

The Educational Development Programme is open to all staff. It provides a wide variety of workshops, interactive events, networks, podcasts, fora and conferences which help you focus on developing your own practice.

Begin to collate evidence

You can make a start on familiarising yourself on the requirements of PSF2023, and the types of evidence you need to be able to make a claim for Associate Fellow, Fellow or Senior Fellow.
It may take some time to collate and organise your evidence, so you it's a good idea to start identifying and saving this now so you are better prepared when joining the scheme.
