Claire is a chartered management accountant. She qualified will employed with British Telecom plc in the International Division in London. She has several years teaching experience both in FE and HE and gained her doctorate in education in 2016.

Claire is a chartered management accountant. She qualified will employed with British Telecom plc in the International Division in London. She has several years teaching experience both in FE and HE and gained her doctorate in education in 2016.

Claire has eight years experience within the NHS and BT plc. She has undertaken roles of Budget Accountant; Financial Analyst; Central Billing Party Accountant (Sub-sea cables) and Capital Project Accountant (Sub-sea cable installation). She was admitted as a member to CIMA during her employment with BT plc.

Claire started teaching within the Further Education sector and has taught a wide range of subjects including management accounting, financial accounting. taxation. She also enjoys developing students spreadsheet skills and has integrated this into her teaching delivery and assessments where possible. Whilst employed at Manchester Metropolitan University, she was invited to teach at a summer school in Chengdu, China as a visiting professor.

Research interests

Claire's doctorate involved a study of mature accounting and finance undergraduates. This was a qualitative study underpinned by Holland et al's (1998) Figured Worlds theory as well as Bourdieu's notions of capital to gain a deeper insights into the creation of identity for mature undergraduate students. The aim was to change preconceptions that all undergraduate students are young and join from a school or college environment.

Current teaching

Claire has been the module leader for the Management Accounting and Data Analysis module. She also teaches on Accounting Issues and Financial Management. She will also be teaching on the Introduction to Accounting and Accounting Adjustments. At post-graduate level, she supervises MSc dissertations as well as deliver seminars on the Managing Financial Resources module.
