Dr Haddy Jallow Badjan is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Rehabilitation and Health Professions group, School of Health, Leeds Beckett University. Her expertise is in health and nutrition of adolescents and girls-exploring areas such as malnutrition and other noncommunicable diseases.

Dr Haddy Jallow Badjan is a Post Doctoral Research Assistant in the Rehabilitation and Health Professions group, School of Health, Leeds Beckett University. Her expertise is in global health, migrant health and nutrition of adolescents and girls- exploring areas such as malnutrition and other noncommunicable diseases and determinants of health. She works with young people who are affected by undernutrition, overweight/obesity and micronutrient deficiencies including anaemia to understand the magnitude of nutrition deficiencies and excess in low-income settings, recognise multilevel determinants of these problems and develop interventions with teenagers at the forefront. She also works with experts in the field of nutrition to understand weight management strategies, exercise patterns, psychological support needs and nutrition-related health inequalities of adult minority ethnic and migrant communities.

Haddy has more than 16 years clinical practice as a registered nurse. She worked at Edward Francis Small Hospital (EFSTH)-The Gambia; Maria Mallaband Care Group (MMCG)-UK and Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust-UK. She has undertaken trusteeship with Oblong Leeds-Wood house community centre and part of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Alder Tree Primary. She is also on the NIHR Reviewer Development Scheme for Early Career Researchers.

Research interests

Haddy is a co-founder and jointly manages the Health Secure Partnership (HSP), a nutrition intervention development programme for adolescents in The Gambia funded by MRC. She actively participates in the Health Connections project for the development of a coproduced, community-based diet, physical activity, and healthy weight intervention for UK black and South Asian adults.
