Louise is an Early Years and Childhood specialist based within the Carnegie School of Education. She lectures and supervises on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, leading a variety of modules within the interdisciplinary field of education.

Louise has a particular interest in the process of play, the fascinations and joy of enquiry through high quality early years' provision. The importance of playful experiences, learning through physical and sensory explorations while building strong brain architecture is examined on several of Louise's modules.

Louise has built a wealth of knowledge and expertise through a diverse range of experiences as an inspirational teacher, leader, trainer and consultant in primary education. Specialising in early education and the primary phase, she has consistently applied forward-thinking approaches to her work, embracing new pedagogical methods and integrating emerging methods to enhance learning outcomes.

Research interests

Lou is passionate about promoting and enabling inclusive early years' education for children with additional needs. She is most interested in supporting children to achieve their full potential through high quality enabling environments, embraced by positive and trusting knowledgeable others.

In her PhD, Lou is researching how young learners with a diagnosis of Down Syndrome develop communication skills through multi-sensory embodied learning. Lou is a passionate advocate for the rights of the child and has a strong desire to contribute toward research in the field of Trisomy 21, supporting practitioners and caregivers.
