Meri Nasilyan – Course Director for Digital Pedagogy

Meri Nasilyan is Course Director at the Carnegie School of Education. She oversees the MSc Digital Pedagogy, MA Transformative Education, PGCE Online, PG Cert Leading SEN in International Contexts, and MA Inclusive Practice in Education programmes. Meri has been elected Course Director Representative for the University Academic Board (2024–2027 Term of Office). She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a multilingual academic with extensive experience in higher education, distance learning, research, and e-marketing. She holds an MSc from the University of Oxford, an MA from the University of Manchester, and an MA from the American University of Armenia.

Meri's work focuses on developing innovative strategies for accessible online education, creating inclusive and digitally effective learning content, and providing outstanding student support.

Research interests

Meri has conducted research at University of Oxford, examining postgraduate students' perceptions on virtual communities in social media (Twitter, Facebook) and their identity transformations. She is the founder of an Environmental Education School Curriculum 2012 in Georgia, region of Adjara introducing environmental education in four local schools and their policy and curriculum. She is also the recipient of Aster Excellence Award for her Dissertation from University of Manchester for her research study on international students' experiences with Academic Writing.

Current Research:
Meri is leading a research project investigating young people’s perspectives and lived experiences of social media. The study explores how their use of social media is influenced by peers, family, and society, and how young people perceive its impact on their wellbeing. Insights from this research aim to provide a young person-centric understanding of social media and wellbeing, serving as a baseline for future research on mental health and digital engagement.
