Henry Kirby

Henry (they/them) joined the team at LBU in 2021, they trained as an Adult Nurse and teach across the pre-registration traditional and apprentice routes, and supervise post-registration research projects.

They are currently completing a PhD in trans care activism.

Henry (they/them) joined the team at LBU in 2021, they trained as an Adult Nurse and teach across the pre-registration traditional and apprentice routes, and supervise post-registration research projects.

They are currently completing a PhD in trans care activism.

Henry (they/them) joined the team at LBU in 2021, they trained as an Adult Nurse and teach across the pre-registration traditional and apprentice routes, and supervise post-registration research projects.

They are currently completing a PhD in trans care activism.

Henry has clinical experience in elderly care, abdominal medicine and surgery, and A and E which they bring into their academic teaching. After completing a Masters in Gender Studies they began teaching in higher education in 2020, leaving clinical practice in 2021. They teach across the professionalism and science and practice modules in the pre-registration programme.

Henry's PhD explores how trans people provide care as a form of resistance and activism, using the project to develop a trans care archive.

Their wider academic interests include care theory, feminist standpoint theory, and critical pedagogy practices. They build these interests into their teaching, and are passionate about growing deeper understandings of Nursing practice and care work.

Research interests

Henry's main research interests include trans health and care experiences, archival practices, and feminist methodologies.

They have links with Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust's Research Team, and lead on the research in practice support for pre-registration learners.
