Poonam Shokar

Lecturer

Dr Poonam Shokar is a full time lecturer at Leeds Beckett University. She currently teaches on the following modules Property law, Criminal law, Criminal Litigation, Law of evidence and Advocacy. Poonam obtained her LLB in Human Rights degree from Prifsygol Aberystwyth in 2018. She obtained her LLM in International Human Rights Law from the Irish Centre for Human Rights in 2019 and obtained her doctorate in Law and Human Rights in 2023. She has recently completed the Barrister Training Course and is expected to be called to the Bar in 2026/27.

Professional activities

Poonam is currently applying for pupillages and is expected to be called to the Bar in 2026/27.

Current teaching

She currently teaches on the following modules Property law, Criminal law, Criminal Litigation, Law of evidence and Advocacy, She also has provided support on the International Human Rights Module. 

Impact

Poonam currently runs mooting society and is a law clinic assistant with BPP London Holborn. She also is a translator for refugees in Punjabi with BPP Social Impact and a BPP Street Law volunteer.
