Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

Shane is a Lecturer in Strategy, Operations and Enterprise at the Leeds Beckett Business school.

Shane is a Senior Lecturer in Strategy, Operations and Enterprise at the Leeds Beckett Business school and the Pathway Lead for the MSc Entrepreneurship and Business Development course. He also works as a Business Mentor with the Knowledge Exchange, working with start up's and SME's from around the Leeds area.

Shane has been working in Higher Education since 2018, after more than a decade of working in industry in the UK, America and South Africa.

Initially, Shane trained as a Sports Coach and PE teacher, completing an BA Hons Degree at Leeds Beckett. From there, he moved to Cape Town, South Africa, to work in the Sport for Development sector. He was employed as a programme manager for a local non-profit organisation. He was responsible for planning and implementing life-skill and educational programmes in children's homes, orphanages and rehab centres.

Upon his return to the UK, Shane launched a Sports Coaching business, specialising in providing PE and school sport to primary schools. After several years of trading, he decided to return to university to complete a MA in Sport Business. This subsequently led to teaching roles across several universities, before returning to Leeds Beckett in 2023.

Alongside his role at university, Shane is still involved in several companies as a director and consultant. He is also a parent Governor at a primary school.
