About

Yasmin is a solicitor with comprehensive experience in Criminal Law & Procedure having defended and prosecuted, as well as working as a Legal Adviser; she is also a former magistrate. Yasmin has over 20 years experience within HE including lecturing law.

Yasmin started her career in the legal profession in 1998, qualifying as a solicitor in 2000 specialising in Criminal Law. After having defended and prosecuted, and working as a Legal Adviser, she also sat as a Magistrate in South Yorkshire for a number of years. Her love for the law led to her taking up a role as a Criminal Law lecturer; as a result she now has over 20 years of experience within the Higher Education
sector.

During her time teaching at another institution, Yasmin managed both the full-time and part-time Graduate Diploma in Law programmes for several years, whilst also studying part-time at the University of Leeds.
Yasmin engaged in all aspects of higher education and recognised the importance of the student voice
and having students actively involved in governance.

Yasmin also worked within the higher education department of a global Awarding Body for over 10 years. She has overseen qualifications at Level 4 and Level 5, including qualification design, development, international provision, quality assurance & assessment, internal and external stakeholder engagement & regulatory compliance.

Research interests

Yasmin is fascinated by the 'loss of control' partial defence to murder and how it impacts on those who kill
their partner, particularly women, when they are in an abusive relationship. The Law Commission is currently re-exploring homicide and Yasmin would like to use her research to respond to the anticipated public consultation.

Yasmin is also very interested in the influence of AI on Academic Integrity and she would like to explore
this area as a potential future research opportunity.
