Zahra Rahim is a Lecturer within the Adult Nursing team and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She is a Registered Adult Nurse with a background in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care and Cruise Ship Nursing.

Zahra brings extensive knowledge and expertise to inspire the future generations of nurses. With a dedicated focus on professional development and education, she is committed to developing her students and preparing them for a successful career in healthcare. Previous experience working within Emergency Medicine and Critical Care has allowed her to enrich her clinical expertise and through mentoring students, she has developed her own innovative teaching methods through a blend of different learning theories such as behaviourism, cognitivism and humanism.

Zahra is passionate about integrating new pedagogical approaches to enhance the learning experience of her students. One key area she encompasses this is through Clinical Skills and Simulation education. She is the Module Leader for Level 6 Advancing Nursing Science and Practice, alongside taking an active role in the recruitment process for potential nursing students. She is an advocate of incorporating nursing with overseas travel and is enthusiastic about educating her students about the wide range of opportunities nursing has to offer. She enjoys sharing stories of her experience working within the medical team onboard cruise ships.

Outside of work, Zahra enjoys travelling and immersing herself in various cultures and cuisines. She also enjoys leading a healthy and active lifestyle, listening to music and podcasts, and spending time with her friends and family.

Research interests

Zahra's current research interests include travel medicine and integrating innovative clinical skills and simulation education into her teaching. She is currently conducting a systematic review on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), in collaboration with a colleague in Utah, USA. This research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of FGM and its impact beyond Western viewpoints.

Zahra has also recently completed a project to develop field-specific simulation scenarios for adult and mental health nursing students, to enable authentic learning and reflective practice to take place, with the aim of enhancing parity of esteem.

Current teaching
