Where to eat and drink in Headingley

Kuala Lumpur is a favourite with Leeds' students and for good reason.

This cosy, casual spot dishes up delightful Malaysian food with all the flavour but for less of the price. Kick things off with delightfully flaky roti and crispy spring rolls, then dive into mains served with a side of nasi lemak. From a rich rendang to a fruity kari Nyonya peranakan, every plate packs a punch. Oh, and did we mention you can bring your own booze?

Bowery isn't your average coffee shop.

Bowery isn't your average coffee shop. The visual arts centre also hosts art exhibitions, workshops and short courses ranging from creative writing to jewellery making. Of course, the coffee is great too (the matcha is amazing), and the sandwiches and cakes even more so. Don't forget to pop by the gift shop to pick up handmade trinkets, gifts, plants and more.

Want to swap the Otley Run for something a bit more refined? Bottle Chop is a cosy deli and wine bar perfect for dates or catch ups with friends.

It may be small inside, but that only adds to the charm, so hunker down and get lost in the menu. They specialise in organic and biodynamic wines, from rich reds to aromatic oranges, with a fridge stocked full of beers. And don't skip the deli counter - their meats and cheeses are the ideal pairing for whatever you're sipping.

Did you know that Headingley is home to the oldest cinema in Leeds and one of the oldest in the UK?

That's right, though it was originally built as a garage for the nearby Castle Grove mansion, it started screening films in 1912, and the rest is history. You can expect the latest blockbusters, independents, children's films and screenings of classics, with ice cream during the intermission - yes, please.

Headingley Stadium is a rite of passage for all sports lovers in Leeds.

Whether it's rugby, cricket or just some good old-fashioned fun you're after, a visit here always promises a good time - you can often hear the cheers echoing across Leeds on game day. It's also well and truly put the city on the world map, with both England's unforgettable Ashes victory in 2019 and the Women's Rugby League World Cup in 2022 taking place here.

Where to shop in Headingley

Vinyl Whistle is a must visit for any vinyl lovers.

Spread across two floors, this music emporium is home to genres spanning pop, hip hop, rock, funk soul and, well, you get the picture. But it's not just about the music, because there's also a cosy bar where you can sip on barista-made coffee, grab a soft drink, or enjoy a pint of Kirkstall Brewery's finest. It really does hit all the right notes.

Tucked away in what was once Headingley Primary School, the HEART Centre has grown into a true community cornerstone since its transformation in 2011.

It's first and foremost a place for people to meet, work and play, with an on-site bar and café for refreshments. Wander through and you'll find an art gallery, a plant shop, a gift store, and a packed calendar of events including live music, film nights, and craft fairs.
