Thanks so much for your patience and understanding — and sorry for the inconvenience.

Our Junior Athletics Academy offers sessions for two age groups: 8–10 years and 11–16 years, ensuring a tailored approach to meet the developmental needs of each group. Whether your child is new to athletics or looking to build on their experience, our programme provides a fun, safe, and supportive environment for them to thrive.

Our sessions take place on our outdoor full 400m athletics facility. When the weather is bad, we have access to excellent indoor facilities, including a 60m indoor sprint track and sports halls, ensuring sessions can continue regardless of conditions.

Our sessions are open to all abilities and provide a high-quality coaching programme. Each session includes elements of running (hurdles, sprinting & middle distance), jumping (long jump, triple jump & high jump and throwing (shot, javelin & discus), while continuing to develop fundamental movement skills. All our coaches hold a current DBS check and are either England Athletics qualified or participating in the Leadership Academy programme to support their coaching development journey.

Our athletics sessions are planned in line with the England Athletics curriculum and the Long-Term Athlete Development model. In our 11+ sessions, we focus on further developing event-specific skills. Children choose in Part 1 between sprinting (hurdles and sprints) or middle-distance running. Part 2 then covers either jumping, throwing, or event conditioning. For children aged 8–10, the focus is on introducing the fundamentals of running, jumping, and throwing. We aim to include elements of all three in every session, with variations across the week so children attending more than one session get a different experience each time. Every session ends with a relay designed to bring together the theme of the day.

LTA qualified & DBS checked coaches
High-quality coaching in a safe, supportive setting

A clear pathway for every young player

From learning the basics to playing competitively, we guide players through a structured progression:

  • FUNdamentals – the perfect introduction to tennis through movement, coordination and fun games
  • Rising Stars – rallying, consistency, shot purpose and tactical awareness
  • Red Ball Performance (U8) – tailored training and competition planning for county pathway players
  • Competitors (Invitational) – train more often, compete regularly and represent Beckett

We are proud of our fantastic links with other clubs in the area, many of which are led by LBU alumni. Thanks to these connections, once a child reaches the stage where they are ready and motivated to progress through the official LTA competition structure, we can guide both players and parents. Our team will provide tailored advice on how to build a suitable training and competition programme to support long-term player development and ensure that each child has the chance to reach their full potential in tennis.

Coaching

All sessions are delivered by LTA qualified coaches who are DBS checked, with student coaches supported through the Beckett Junior Sport Coach mentoring programme, creating a positive experience for every child on court.
