Animations & Interaction

  • The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.

  • How do I turn off animations?
    Chrome

    Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

    Microsoft Edge

    There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

    Internet Explorer

    To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

    Firefox

    Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

To continue using our facilities from this date, you'll need to renew your membership. Athletic Union Membership 

There are three tiers of membership depending on which team you wish to join, see FAQs below.

Join a Leeds Beckett sports club with AU membership, which includes:

Student Memberships - Key information

Student memberships for 2026-27 start on the 1st August 2026, and you will need a new membership to access the facilities from this date.

You can sign up for free, and gain the benefits of access to the gym, pool, fitness classes and track, with payment not due until the start of term.

You need to make this payment by the 11th October 2026 to be able to keep using the facilities – if you pay by this date, you also benefit from our early bird discounted prices, saving up to £30 on your annual membership.

Refunds:

  • For refunds within the 14-day cooling-off period or cancellations after the cooling-off period, complete the cancellation/amendment form

FAQs

You should select your first choice of Athletics Union Club membership. If you then change clubs after the trials, you need to complete an amendment form found on the Memberships webpage. This will be sent to one of our membership managers to action to ensure that you are registered with the club of your choice.

No problem, If you change clubs after the trials or decide that you no longer want to join a club you just need to complete the cancellation/amendment form found on the Memberships webpage. This will be actioned as soon as possible to ensure that you are registered with the club of your choice and/or your membership fees adapted accordingly.

If you would like to join a 2nd AU team/club please visit the Sports Office, or the Sports Reception, who will take the relevant AU Club payment by card and add this membership to your account. Please note: There is no option to purchase 2nd AU Clubs online or by direct debit.

No problem, you just need to complete the cancellation/amendment form found on the Memberships webpage. This will be actioned as soon as possible to ensure that your membership fees are adapted/cancelled accordingly.

You can pay for a fitness class, single gym, pool or track use for £4.95 (student and staff) or £5.50 (community). You can access any of our turn up and play session for £3.30. You will still need to download the Beckett Sport App to book onto our fitness classes/turn up and play session.

You will need to complete the cancellation/amendment form found on the Memberships webpage. Consideration will be given to cancellations of your membership as per the refund criteria set out in our terms and conditions.

Terms and conditions

Whilst you are awaiting confirmation of acceptance to our scholarship scheme you should sign up to a membership. Upon confirmation you will need to complete the cancellation / amendment form found on the Memberships webpage. This will be actioned as soon as possible to ensure that your membership and any associated fees are adapted / refunded accordingly.

If you are having problems creating a Leisure Hub account it is likely that you are not inputting the correct student/staff email address which will link to your account in our system (your account in our system is interfaced from the University student/staff registry systems). If you have any further problems, please contact one of our Reception Team who will assist you with gaining access.

Yes, you have a 14-day cooling-off period from the day you sign up for your membership. If you cancel within this timeframe, then no fees will be taken or you will be refunded any fees paid. You will need to complete the cancellation / amendment form found on the Memberships webpage to cancel within this period.

If you cancel after 14 days, you will need to complete the cancellation/amendment form found on the Memberships webpage, following which consideration will be given per the refund criteria in our terms and conditions.

Student memberships for 2026-27 need to be paid in one payment by the 11th October.

In order to be able to keep the prices as competitive as possible, we cannot offer instalments as this increases the costs due to the additional administrative workload required to manage the memberships. We delay the deadline for this payment to the start of term to help students to be able to manage this cost  - but if you are struggling with hardship, please contact the student money team for advice and support
