Beckett Sport Leadership Academy – Student Employability Opportunities in Sport

The Leadership Academy is an employability and leadership programme designed for students who want to develop their skills and experience in coaching, marketing, and leadership by supporting the delivery of our social sport, Athletic Union, Junior, and Strength & Conditioning programmes.

Students gain hands-on experience while developing themselves professionally, building networks, and enhancing their employability in the sports sector.

Who Can Apply? 

  • Have prior experience in coaching, leading, marketing, or organising sports activities
  • Show a genuine passion for working within and developing our sporting offer and programmes
  • Be keen to develop their skills and obtain additional qualifications while gaining experience in a sporting environment

Juinor coaching for American Football

Each year, we offer exciting sports coaching opportunities for Leeds Beckett students who want to develop their coaching skills through hands-on experience. These roles provide a fantastic chance to gain real-world coaching experience while working with young athletes in the Beckett Sport Juniors programme.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a Leeds Beckett student
  • Have prior coaching experience or hold a coaching qualification (minimum Level 1 or equivalent)

Available coaching opportunities in:
Athletics and Tennis

Coaching Tiers

Based on your qualifications and experience, you will be placed in one of the following coaching tiers:

Head Coach

  • Qualified to Level 2 or 3, depending on the sport
  • Experience leading sessions and managing other coaches
  • Able to lead sessions and manage parent communication in the absence of the Lead Coordinator

Lead Coach

  • Must hold a Level 2 coaching qualification in one of the listed sports
  • Experience delivering sessions independently
  • Responsible for delivering sessions and supporting the Head Coach

Coaching Scholar

  • Qualified to Level 1 or have strong knowledge of the sport
  • Must be willing to obtain a coaching qualification within the first term
  • Assist in sessions under the supervision of a Head or Lead Coach

Sport Activators are Leeds Beckett University students who are passionate about sport, an active lifestyle, and promoting sport to other students. You don’t need to be part of a sports club or have played the sport at a high level, just be committed, enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable about the sport you’ll be supporting.

This programme is ideal for students interested in professional development, career growth, and enhancing their CV and employability skills.

Role Overview

Activators are responsible for delivering our Social Sport programme, contributing a minimum of four hours per week, which may include:

  • Planning and leading sessions
  • Social media and promotional activities

Positions Available – From September 2026

Football

  • Five Activators to referee, deliver, and promote the social league programme
  • One Activator for Women’s social football

Futsal

  • One Activator to deliver the Futsal programme

Netball

  • Four Activators/officials to deliver and promote the social league programme

Volleyball

  • One Activator to deliver and promote the social programme

Badminton

  • One Activator to deliver and promote the social programme

Beckett Sport is looking for Student Marketing Ambassadors to help enhance the sporting experience at Leeds Beckett University and raise the profile of Beckett Sport programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in gaining practical experience in sports marketing, communications, and event promotion, and is ideal for those considering a career in sports marketing or business.

About the Role

As a Beckett Sport Marketing Ambassador, you will support Beckett Sport staff in a variety of promotional and engagement activities, including:

  • Assisting with the promotion of major Beckett Sport events, such as the annual Varsity calendar, Freshers Fair, and Beckett Sport Juniors programme
  • Supporting marketing campaigns and social media activity to increase student engagement
  • Representing Beckett Sport and encouraging participation across campus

Ambassadors will also have the opportunity to work across multiple programme areas, including:

Scholars will gain hands-on experience supporting the delivery of the Strength & Conditioning programme while developing professional skills in coaching, leadership, and performance support.

About the Role

As a Strength & Conditioning Coaching Scholar, you will:

  • Support the coaching team in delivering strength and conditioning sessions for Athletic Union focus sport teams, scholarship athletes, TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme), and Athletics Talent Hub athletes
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of the Beckett Sport Group Exercise Programme
  • Contribute to athlete monitoring, session preparation, and coaching feedback under the guidance of qualified staff
  • Participate in team meetings and educational workshops designed to enhance both your practical coaching and academic understanding of performance sport

This role provides a unique opportunity to develop skills in athlete development, session planning, and programme delivery, while gaining insight into professional sport environments.
