Our ethos

A nationwide reputation

Our Match Team Cheerleaders perform at AU Club fixtures throughout the year, including the annual Varsity event in front of 15,000 spectators. If you’re looking for something with a more competitive edge why not try out for our competition team. We have a nationwide reputation in University Cheerleading for being the team to watch in our division. We have a close partnership with the all-star programme Aviators Cheer (based at Level-Up Academy) who compete at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida each year.

Everything you need to know

Competition team

We will encourage you to push yourself to achieve the most you can in the sport and allow you to learn, develop and perfect new skills. Alongside the training and competition element of cheerleading, you will be involved in one of the biggest social sports at the university. This means you can be involved in fun socials, tour and making friendships that will last a lifetime. To Training takes places twice a week at Unity Allstars gym, with a full sprung floor, tumbling tracks and pits.

Leeds Beckett awards a number of sports scholarships to high performing athletes each year who are committed to upholding the values of the university and willing to represent Leeds Beckett in BUCS events. Scholarships are also awarded to those who demonstrate the ability to progress and achieve high levels of success in their chosen sports.

Equipment

For both teams, successful athletes will need to purchase their own uniform and there will also be an opportunity to purchase an optional training kit.

Pre-requisites
  • Competition Cheerleading:
No previous cheerleading experience is required, however those trialling for places on the competition team will need to perform a short routine which may include tumbling.
  • Match Cheerleading:
No prior cheerleading experience is required, however new members will be lead through a piece of choreography by our coaches at trials, so a basic dance level is beneficial.
