Welcome

Leeds Beckett Squash club have a men’s teams who compete in leagues in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions and one developmental women’s team. We also offer social squash sessions - it doesn’t matter what experience you have; anyone is more than welcome to come along and play.

  • The club won the BUCS Cup three years in a row, and the league five times.
  • The club has several notable alumni including former world number 50 Eddie Charlton, and world number one Vanessa Atkinson.

What equipment will I need?

New players will need to have indoor non-marking shoes and a racket. Rackets can be provided if you don’t have your own, please speak to the club.

Training schedule

Team training takes place four times per week, with additional social sessions available. Matches take place home and away on a Wednesday.

Any prerequisites?

The club welcome beginners to the sport, even if you’ve never picked up a racket before.

Casual squash

We run recreation sessions run for those who want a relaxed session with no commitment, welcoming all abilities.

We have been supporting students to reach their potential through the scheme since 2002. Famous alumni that have benefitted from the scheme include Lucy Bronze, Alistair Brownlee, Alex Yee, Emily Scarratt, Vicky Fleetwood, Laura Weightman and Tom Bosworth.

Leeds Beckett awards a number of sports scholarships to high performing athletes each year who are committed to upholding the values of the university and willing to represent Leeds Beckett in BUCS events. Scholarships are also awarded to those who demonstrate the ability to progress and achieve high levels of success in their chosen sports.

Criteria

As a squash player you may be eligible for a scholarship if you meet the following criteria:

  • Men - Top 450 world ranking
  • Women - Top 150 world ranking
  • Both -
    • Junior Worlds individuals last 16 or better.
    • British Junior Open U19 Quarter Finals or better.
    • Junior European Championships quarter finalist.
    • Part of the England Squash EDP programme.

Racket Sport Scholarships are available to students who are seeking further experience in coaching in order to enhance employability opportunities.In order to apply, students must be at least a Level 1 Coach. A commitment of four hours per week to coaching on the junior and Recreational programmes is required. This scholarship offers financial benefits and a mentoring scheme to successful applicants.
