Why thai boxing?

The club take great pride in welcoming individuals of all levels into the team, offering all club members a fun and sociable training environment. The sport is excellent for fitness and helping to gain strength, so if you're looking to keep fit and be part of a community, we're the club for you! Should you, however, have ambitions to take Thai Boxing a little further we have excellent opportunities throughout the year for you to be able to compete.

Like all sports teams we also take part in great socials every month throughout the year - which is a great way to get to know your team better and keep team morale high.

Did you know?

  • The club has close links with professional gyms such as Bad Company Thai Boxing Gym, home to some of Thai Boxing’s world champions.
  • Our head coach is also a fully qualified physio.

What equipment will I need?

For the general fitness sessions you don't need to bring any equipment, although we heavily recommend that you come dresses in fitness/gym clothing for your own comfort.

If you wish to join in the sparring sessions, we would recommend purchasing your own boxing gloves - we do provide boxing mitts, but these are not suitable for sparring.

Should you wish to purchase your own gloves please make sure these are 16oz gloves. For those who wish to spar and engage in contact sessions please make sure you also have a gum shield.

Everything you need to know

Beginners are welcome to attend sessions throughout the year, please just contact the club to arrange a session.

Training schedule

Training takes place in a purpose-built martial arts gym at Headingley Campus.

We have been supporting students to reach their potential through the scheme since 2002. Famous alumni that have benefitted from the scheme include Lucy Bronze, Alistair Brownlee, Alex Yee, Emily Scarratt, Vicky Fleetwood, Laura Weightman and Tom Bosworth.

Leeds Beckett awards a number of sports scholarships to high performing athletes each year who are committed to upholding the values of the university and willing to represent Leeds Beckett in BUCS events. Scholarships are also awarded to those who demonstrate the ability to progress and achieve high levels of success in their chosen sports.
