Course: BA (Hons) Primary Education (Accelerated)
How was your Graduation Ceremony?
It was good, I really enjoyed it. It was nice to see everyone again and celebrate together – it’s been a fantastic day.
What’s next for you now after Graduation?
I go straight into a PGCE in September, continuing the steps to become a Primary School teacher.
Why did you choose to study BA (Hons) Primary Education (Accelerated) course at Leeds Beckett?
I am from Leeds and at the beginning of lockdown, I decided I wanted a career change after 15 years working in the hospitality industry. The work-life balance wasn’t great and I struggled with the constant face paced environment so I decided I wanted to get into teaching. I had a memorable primary school teacher when I was younger who positively impacted my life, so that’s what made me want to get into teaching. It was something I never thought would be possible but I decided to take the chance and look into it at Leeds Beckett. The lecturers were really accommodating and easy to work with, and it was a very clear application process. I didn’t attend an open day but from speaking directly with the lecturers and the admissions team, I knew it was the place for me and to be honest, I love everything Leeds!
What was your favourite part of your course and why?
Probably meeting all the different academics we have, they are all really insightful and all from completely different walks of life. They brought really valuable knowledge and advice to the classroom. Also the people I met on the course, it was great to be able to work with them in group work sessions, they are going to be friends for life for sure.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of studying your course?
I would say because it’s an accelerated degree, the first year is fast-paced and crazy so don’t take anything for granted in the second year as you have more spare time but still have a lot of work to do. Don’t leave it all to the last minute! The course is a full degree but to be completed in 2 years not the normal 3 years so it is quite intense sometimes. The first year is like a rollercoaster it’s pretty fast but enjoyable and you get through it really quickly.
