Leeds Beckett University review helps maximise the benefits of global research programmes for poverty alleviation and educational development

An independent review of current policy and practice impact support resources for three global research programmes operated by the Economic and Social Research Council and Department for International Development (ESRC-DFID), has been conducted by academics from the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Focused on poverty alleviation and educational development in developing countries, these programmes fund world-class research with high-potential for policy and practice impacts. The multi-disciplinary team, experienced in programme evaluation and tourism development in low-income countries, reviewed the effectiveness of the current support resources intended to help researchers maximise the policy, practice and societal impact of their work  within the Growth Research Programme; Joint Fund for Poverty Alleviation Research; and Raising Learning Outcomes in Education Systems Programme.

Reflecting on the findings, Deputy-Principal Investigator for the project Dr Neil Ormerod said:

“Understanding how global research programmes can be better designed and supported is essential for achieving genuine societal change and maximising the value of these important programmes. Our findings are already helping the ESRC-DFID plan and improve future programmes”.
