Second-year BA (Hons) Events Management students on the Creative Event Design module were invited by Leeds 2023 Creative Producer Anna Turynski and Creative Technologist Adam Skowronski to design event content ideas for the anticipated Games Jam, soon to be launched as part of the exciting programme.

Gaming ideas were drawn from students’ own personal experience of Leeds, including re-connecting to the city, post-pandemic, through a series of events trails in an ‘Around the City in 80 Ways’ adventure; to ‘Magnifying the Music’, ‘treasure’ hunt for secret but iconic Leeds music stories and venues.

The students were able to work closely with the Leeds 2023 team to interrogate the brief, and contribute valuable perspectives on young people’s experience of Leeds. Finally, students pitched their ideas to the Leeds 2023 team. An inspiring, challenging and fun process bringing life of Leeds and Leeds 2023 into our live assessments.

Adam, a student on the course said, “The thought and detail they went into were brilliant, and excited to see how we could potentially bring some of these ideas to life.”

Module Leader, Dr Julia Calver stated, “Leeds has such a vibrant cultural and creative offer in which to engage our students and this really ensures our students are understanding and applying their learning throughout the course.”
