Tell us a bit about yourself and what drew you to studying an MA in Physical Education and Youth Sport?
Growing up, sport has always been a huge part of my life, shaping who I am and what I am interested in. From playing football, swimming and playing on different sports teams throughout school, I have always loved being active and involved in sports. This led me to pursue a BTEC extended diploma in Sport and Exercise Science in sixth form.
When I moved on to study BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science at undergraduate level at Leeds Beckett, I got a more in-depth dive into the science behind sport and human performance. But as much as I enjoyed the course, I started thinking about my future career. I realised that I wanted to work with children and make a positive impact on their lives through PE and sports. The idea of teaching them important values such as teamwork and resilience while having fun being physically active really appealed to me.
Choosing to then shift my focus from the scientific aspects of sport to the educational and developmental aspects was a natural progression for me. I am drawn to the idea of leveraging my background in sport and exercise science to create enriching experiences for young individuals, fostering their physical, emotional, and social well-being through PE programs and engaging youth sports initiatives. Ultimately, my decision to pursue a Master’s degree in Physical Education and Youth Sport stems from my firm dedication to channelling my passion for sports into a purposeful career path where I can inspire and empower the next generation to lead active, healthy lifestyles and unlock their full potential.

Having this positive experience instilled a sense of confidence and trust in the university to provide a good experience at postgraduate level. Additionally, the University’s strong reputation in the field of sport and PE, further solidified my decision to continue my studies at Beckett.
