Anna Rutherford – BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science: Deans Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement

"Studying at Leeds Beckett has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I have received excellent support from lecturers throughout my time at university, who have helped to develop my understanding and application of several disciplines within sport and exercise science. The highlight of the course was conducting my own research project within a university hockey team, as this allowed me to bring together all of the knowledge and research skills that I had learnt throughout the previous three years, whilst also learning new things about my sport! I was really surprised and emotional when I found out I had won the prize. I've always worked hard and it’s so nice that it has been recognised by others; it definitely makes all the hard work feel worth it! I now look forward to continuing my studies within Leeds Beckett University."

Max Pinckney – BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science: Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Course
"Over the last three years in addition to my course I have had the opportunity to gain experience in a real life and practical context within teams of researchers. I have benefited from the expertise of the Carnegie School of Sport staff while supporting with the data collection for research studies. This included military funded research as well as a sprint study using the 1080 Motion resisted sprint system. I collected data in the environmental chamber using simulated altitude which enabled me to experience the challenges of researching in a hypoxic environment. I supported an Olympic sprinter with training, using the state-of-the-art facilities here and assisted with fitness testing on behalf of the RFL at multiple different rugby league clubs around the country. It means a great deal to be awarded the course prize. I am so grateful that my efforts over the past three years have been recognised in this way. I have learned valuable skills throughout my Sport and Exercise Science degree and gained confidence which will benefit me wherever the future takes me. I am excited to start my MSc in Sport and Exercise Biomechanics and continue my development at Leeds Beckett University."
