Tiled background

My academic journey began with a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from the University of Benin, Nigeria. After years in the workforce, I earned an MBA from Business School Netherlands in 2017 and an MSc in International Events Management from Leeds Beckett in 2023. Though I initially preferred industry work, my MSc supervisor encouraged me to pursue a PhD—leading me to embark on this research journey. These academic achievements and my professional experiences, coupled with challenges I have overcome, such as balancing demanding roles with academic pursuits, have instilled resilience and a determination to make a difference.

My research explores gender diversity at corporate events, using Nigeria’s oil and gas industry as a case study. These events are crucial for career progression, yet women often face barriers to full participation. I examine how event structures, cultural norms, and organizational practices influence gender dynamics and seek ways to drive meaningful change.

With over two decades in the energy sector, I’ve witnessed first hand the challenges women face in corporate spaces. My roles in marketing, strategic advocacy, and event management allowed me to observe and challenge gender disparities. Inspired by mentors and my experiences, I am committed to fostering inclusive professional environments.

I was honoured with a Special Recognition Award from the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) in 2024 for my contributions to the industry. Since 2010, I’ve played a key role in organizing major NGA events, including AGMs, international conferences, and Nigeria’s presence at World Gas Conferences in 2018 and 2022. These experiences strengthened my expertise in event management and global industry engagement.

Looking ahead, I am eager to bridge the gap between research and practice. Upon completing my PhD, I aspire to influence industry policies and academic discourse on diversity and inclusion. Whether through consultancy, public speaking, or research collaborations, I aim to shape corporate practices that empower women and other underrepresented groups.

Ultimately, I hope my work contributes to a broader societal impact by fostering environments where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive. By advocating for inclusive practices, I aim to leave a legacy in event management, corporate culture, and gender equity.
